It’s Almost My Birthday!

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” — Albert Einstein

Birthdays are a time for Celebration!

Birthdays are a time for celebration and reflection! I love birthdays! This year as in every year for the past 27 — I am getting together with my 3 best girlfriends for lunch. None of them knew each other when we started out, but we’ve had lunches full of laughter and caring from the beginning. By now we’re having so much fun we can hardly contain ourselves. Buying each other funny/insulting old age cards. Laughing all through lunch. Exchanging pictures and catching up on anything we might have missed the past year gone by! We have priceless, irreplaceable friendships and have stood together during first love, weddings, first babies, painful divorce, loss of parents and even siblings. We are friends to the end and bring each other terrific support and such joy!

As far as reflection goes, on my birthday, I take the time to assess my life and thank God for every part of it. My life has been wonderful from the beginning to the middle. I love my family, my friends and the Lord. They are all so delightfully funny and nice and good. Including God? Sure, He has always had a great sense of humor I have found, and niceness and goodness supplied in abundance.

This all takes time. You cannot jam this type of celebrating and thinking and going out to lunches and dinners into one busy day. And Father’s Day too, because of the closeness to my birthday! And opening funny cards…so I always celebrate for 2, 3, sometime 4 weeks! 🙂

Have a Happy Day all and remember to savor your life and your birthdays!

Friends Are Heart Treasures

My Best Buddy and I

I really couldn’t make it without my friends! To me they are heart treasures. Their love is unconditional even though they know you better than anyone else. “A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” — Elbert Hubbard This quote puts it perfectly! I have lots of acquaintances, fewer friends. You know them by the way they laugh with you not at you, may not always agree with you, but always empathize — listen to you ramble on when many people would get bored and leave the room 🙂 — laugh at your jokes and cry with you too. Sometimes the tears turn to laughter! I treasure these qualities in people, my heart treasures them because they make my heart happy!

The gal in the picture here is Lynn. She will be at the birthday party described above. She is a wonderful best friend! We’ve know each other since Junior High and have always had a blast together! She has a great sense of humor — I love to laugh! We lean on each other, go to each other for advice and share insights when we get one! She’s the best!

You can have fast friends too — people you just hit it off with immediately and a friendship sprouts. I have terrific friends on Twitter and Facebook whom I have never met. I know that people who don’t have these types of friends find this hard to believe, so put it another way. I have people from my High School, who I didn’t even hardly know back then who have become my good at friends on Facebook as adults. Plausible, right? It’s not really that different. We didn’t “know” each other when we started to connect as adults either, just had a vague recollection of a childhood self in common. Now we are excellent friends. I’ve acquainted myself with some old High School friends and am very close to them now, ie: Kathleen and Betsy, Barb and Sandy. I also have great friends on Facebook who I only know on that venue and we have been dear friends for a while, some for years: Celisa and Heather new friends — Miriam, Karen, Carol, Nenette and Mark I’ve known longer — all true heart treasures!

I have excellent friends on Twitter who I have more in common with than some of my friends — and we interact more often due to the way Twitter works. I would like to honor some of these friends, they are: @SuuperG, @angels510 @AliveinMe, @RichardBejah, @nursemom90, @RetiredTeacherD, @_stoicOne_ @MAX_is_more @callomes @DamienCripps and @joebrochin. These people are treasures to all who know them and they do make ones heart happy!

When I count my blessings, right after my relationship with my Lord and my wonderful family, I thank God for my friends! I hope you have many heart treasures too!

“Be who you are and say what you feel…” — Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss really knows what he’s talking about on most subjects, but this #quote packs it all in: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” — Dr. Seuss When I was a kid I was heavily into being who I was. And I was proud to say was a tomboy. I was little and most would say cute and wore dresses to school because in the 60’s it was required, but I played kickball and dodge ball at school and hard ball at home with the boys, mostly bigger. They taught me to be loud and tough, swear and fight. I held back on the swearing but did everything else with enthusiasm! They taught me to fight by default by trying to beat up on me because they didn’t want to be seen playing with a girl. I was little but feisty and talked them into the idea. We developed a certain mutual respect and I had loads of fun hanging out and running around the playground with them. Fortunately I didn’t really need to fight anyone after about 4th grade and gladly gave it up. But I became a pretty good ball player and student too! But I was lucky, those that mattered, didn’t mind:  my parents.

Me during the teen years!

And then at about 13, amazingly I became a girl and so I started hanging with them and found them more fun. They talked more and planned more and mostly about guys, a familiar subject for me. I was more insecure in those years and found I let people who didn’t matter mind to me a bit too often, like some of my peers, ones I shouldn’t listen to. Things like that. The teenage years curse: conformity. I didn’t get caught in the quagmire very long and left that time with my important friends intact!

If you’re ever up against it and uncomfortable in your skin, just say these words to yourself and it will help you get your bearings:  “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” — Dr. Seuss

“Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.”

My Funny Friends B-Day Party

“Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact. ” William James Quote
I love this quote! It is so very true! I was having coffee with a friend other day and she was mentioning that she didn’t really want to live that long…I was astonished. I said why not. She said, life is hard I wouldn’t mind being in heaven with my mom right now. I said, “Oh no, I want to live as long as I can, I love life!” She replied that she knew that I felt that way and she couldn’t understand it, with all the hardships I have had. I said Oh, not really! She gasped! It’s true that I have had many challenges with my health, 3 surgeries in the past 4 years, etc. Financial challenges because I haven’t been able to work, stuff like that and that’s the recent situations, but goodness I LOVE LIFE. I always have. Life is the best thing around on this earth after all! I look forward to heaven someday and seeing  my little son David again, but I don’t want to be cheated out of one joy-filled moment on this earth. Never! I love life because it’s so fun! Laughs to be had! Precious time with family! My dear funny husband! The sunshine! Snow in the winter! I love everything about it…I don’t mind the challenges. Visiting my mom who has Alzheimer is hard but she is still loving and precious and for now still remembers me! She still has her sense of  humor.  Actually she’s getting funnier!

I know my friend is tired. She’s an only child and spends a great deal of time taking care of her dad who just transferred into assisted living– finally. She takes so much time with him and always has him to Sunday dinner. She’s very conscientious. I’m more of a goof off than she is. I always make time for relaxation and fun. I’m going to give her this great quote though for our birthdays, we and two other gals party together every year.

That’s another thing if you left this earth too early — think of all the parties you’d miss? I don’t like to think about that. Well that about sums it up be sure to believe your life is fun and definitely worth living for believing will make it so!

Wonderful Girlfriends We Go Waaay Back!

What a FAB day we had!

These are some fantastic girlfriends and we go back a ways! From left to right the cute shorter one is Sandy,  then Barb, me, Lynn, and Betsy. Two are friends from Grade School! Lynn from Junior High and we’ve been close ever since.  And Betsy from High School.   How did we all get together you might wonder? Well it was all due to Social Media. We met up again on Facebook and decided to go to lunch! We organized it via a group message and voila here we are — all together again! We had a super time and decided we all looked great and would do it again real soon, which I believe we will. It’s so great to take time out of  busy lives for the important things in life: FRIENDS! Why don’t you all try it and post your pictures on Facebook or wherever or however you got together, possibly TWITTER! Spread the word and encourage other old and new friends to reconnect and spend time together: what a wonderful world it is!

It’s Almost May!

How I Feel About All of You

To think this little blog has been in existence about one half month! I have had sooo much fun writing it! I’ve tried out many many different themes! WordPress has so many and are always coming out with new ones. It’s almost too much temptation for a frustrated artist like me. I’m sure to drive my readers crazy. I know I’ll keep up my blogger blogs (all 6 or 7 of them, but there’s no going back: I am a WordPress girl now. There is only going forward into more posts and pages, more trial themes and even more blogs. I hope you like the bells and whistles I’ve added including the music!I will only get more daring I hope and more honest in my writing and find better most suitable pictures to represent each post and quote.

I hope you’re with me for the long haul…you can count on me! I’ll be here! Libby

“It’s A Great Life — If You Don’t Weaken”

Gram's Grandson (Mike, my husband) and I

This was a quote said often by my husband’s grandmother who lived to be 93…a good long time in her generation. She believed strongly in the saying she most likely came up with on her own! None of us could imagine her weakening so we believed the saying to be for our benefit. Which it was, for we all recalled it at the most opportune moments: during a weekend from hell, when our finances went in the tank without warning, during times of poor health: a beautiful reminder to gut it through — for there is sunshine on the other side and a good life for us, if we’ll only hold on! And so we did…time after time…at her encouraging words. They might sound a little harsh to some, but they were music to our ears. They brought back wonderful memories of a sweet and feisty little lady who never let the world get her down, but fought back with wisdom, a smile, her own brand of humor, and love for her family!
